Reynold's Center - Architecture
The Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery are housed in the Old Patent Building, built in 1836-57. In 2003 it closed for three years for a complete renovation and brought the building back to its original look, much to the credit of the Smithsonian. Sir Norman Foster created a glass ceiling much like his work for the British Museum to enclose the interior courtyard, creating a year-round space.
