Mount Vernon
The estate of President George Washington, this is where he always was happiest. The best way to visit is by taking a cruise down the Potomac, but however you get there it's worth a visit. Recently they've opened a new museum about President Washington's life and career, and it adds a great deal to the experience. The thing that impresses me most about the estate though is their gravesite. This was a man who helped create a nation, yet his grave (that he designed) is subtle and humble. Compare to the photos I have of Napoleon's tomb.
