The Chicago History Museum (to me it will always be the Historical Society) has been going through a lot of change and improvement over the years. In my childhood, this was always one of the most frustrating museums Dad would take me to. I wanted to love it, I mean it had the bed Lincoln died in; the Appomattox Surrender table (WHY?); a full train engine you could climb in; great dioramas of Chicago history - but it all seemed so disorganized and uncared for. That seems to be slowly changing - one can hope. And how can you not love a museum that says that my hometown of Schaumburg is the birthplace of the cellphone? Kitty Hawk has nothing on us.
