It was designed by architect Harrison G. Wiseman & built by producer William Rolland as a Yiddish and vaudeville theater. The large auditorium hosted 1,630 patrons for Yiddish theater performances through the mid-1950s. It was long the most important venue in Brooklyn on the Yiddish theater circuit.
