Not your typical castle in appearance... Looks more like a large estate. Nice catch!

It was just the winery estate and control of the own lake access and harbour for the Salem abbot for a long time. 1880 Prince Wilhelm of Baden decided to make it a propper abode for nobility, do away with some old monkish sidebuildings like the baroque chapel and enlarge and beautify the palace to suit him. After WWII his family found someone to run a campground on the foot of the vineyards, and finally the run down castle complex was sold to some unnamed "private" that had it renovated and secured like fort knox with "verboten"signs all over. You can't go there for sitseeing but it is a landmark.
