seems like this tape is of a similar vintage.
more studios, even independent ones, would be using at least DAT or 4 Track for mastering. i guess there would have been a small professional market using these overengineered cassettes to dub from a DAT master and pass around for preview listening.
but i'm guessing most were probably sold to kids making their own mix tape masters. make your initial mix onto one of these, and then make a few copies for your friends from it. probably onto cheaper tapes.
@MartinaWeber i had some friends who were experts at recording off the radio, but by that time the casette recorders were built right into the radios, so no need for a microphone : ]
