This was in a army surplus shoulder bag I bought in Madrid. I've been looking for a bag like for a long time to substitute my aging german gasmask bag, which I use for my camera. Turns out the one I bought in Madrid was a Danish Civil Defence issue...Small world.

Both Spain and Denmark are NATO members, and a lot of army stuff is built to shared NATO standards. The surplus trade has 26 countries to draw on for items, and this stuff really gets around. It all depends on how the trade has gone, and what deals were made recently.

For example, Canada and Germany do a lot of surplus trade, so you see a lot of German surplus in Canada (and I presume a lot of Canadian military surplus in Germany, but I don't know if this is true).

So, the world is even smaller than you might think.

Aha, that would explain a lot of things. Thanks for the insight! (:
