The rising super moon.

Tried to take a picture of the rising super blue blood red moon this evening. This was at dusk, as the moon was rising, while the sun was setting. I had to combine a couple of photos to get this image.

Awesome catch!! Unfortunately, NYC isn't a great place to see this event as the complete eclipse coincides with sunrise.... Not really worth dragging oneself out in ones jammies into the freezing cold to attempt to photograph it ;)

Thanks, Fizgig! I don't blame you. I've seen a few lunar eclipses and, although it is an amazing sight to see, I would not make too much of an effort to head out into the freezing cold to observe it. Of course, if this one is supposed to occur in the early morning, I'll probably see it while I'm out feeding the chickens.

I guess the eclipse occurred the previous morning (not this morning). So, I didn't see it, as yesterday morning the sky was full of cloud.

Nice catch! Taking a photo of the blood moon is an exciting event. Unfortunately, this time Western Europe was not the right place to take a picture of it.

For us, the eclipse 'n' all occurred on the morning of Feb. 1st. I don't feel so bad about not dragging myself out in the cold now seeing as how the skies were completely clouded over during the viewing window in NYC.

Regardless of whether or not what you photographed was the rare "super blue blood red moon" or not, the shot is no less spectacular =)

Thank you, all! I just uploaded a compilation photo of what I photographed during the lunar eclipse, back in 2008. I'm going to assume that yesterday's/today's eclipse looked very similar.

Today's eclipse was similar in colors, yes, but the moon was 14% larger and the red was darker because of the blue moon thing =)

This is so gorgeous. What an amazing job you did! Do you mind my asking for more specifics on the combining of photos to get this? Did you have two from the same perspective with different exposures? Or what? I find the branches being so perfectly placed over the moon to really add to this - did you create that with the two photos?

Thanks so much for posting this - I'm thrilled to have gotten to see it.

Well, I'm very glad that you liked the photo!

Yes, this photograph was created by combining two individual photos I took, using different shutter speeds - on my camera they were 1/80 and 1/10. Then I used Fotoxx to combine them and touch up the final image.

Rather interesting occurences in the sky. And you managed to get a nice shot of it.
