A thirteen-stripped ground squirrel pays us a visit. A very helpful little guy in the garden.

They are, indeed. It's interesting to see their life cycle every season. We have a few of them that live in different parts of the property. But, then in spring, we get a bit of population explosion (half a dozen or so) when they have young. But then, by late summer, there's only the few left, as the youngsters leave the nest.

From what I understand about them, they typically live a life of solitude, except when breeding, which is what we've seen around here. And they've learned not to fear us very much. We can get nice and close without them scurrying away.
