Ugly: The Day of the Dead is a celebration of pre-Hispanic Mexico that honors the dead on November 2, beginning on 1 November, and coincides with the Catholic celebrations of All Souls Day and All Saints. That’s what Wikipedia said about it, and is true.

The tradition is really good here in Mexico, but not in everywhere, it came from prehispanic people and the fusion with Spanish people when they came to México for the conquest, is important here in México because we honor the dead with different activities, for example, you can see other photos in the album with the name “altar”, it means that in every house we honor our dead people with the creation of the altar, it had the favorite food of our familiar that pass away, the photo, and traditional food of the day and other things. Other thing that people do is to go to the pantheon to clean the tomb. Is different in every state here in Mexico. The problem that we have is the influence of United States, sometimes people prefer Halloween instead of this tradition, because the days are kind of the same.
I hope that what I wrote could be good for you to know more about the tradition, thanks for the interest and have an excellent day.

thank you very much for this explanation of your tradition! to me it seems to be a very vivid and lively kind of handling death. i really like the idea of coming together and building an altar of rememberance with items which had a special meaning for those passed away. people here bring flowers to the graves on all saints. well, i have to admit that usually older people do, we younger ones seem to have lost the connection to our losses - and probably to our traditions too.
so it´s no surprise to me that the united states influence is a kind of problem to you for it´s all the same here. since a few years the commercialising of halloween is steadily growing. i´m afraid in 5 years from now there will be carved pumpkins in front of all houses...
all the more i´m happy to see that your tradition is alive.

have a beautiful day uricenia! :)
