The filament that is used is the metal tungsten. The element used in the heaters is a star or the porcupine type coil. It has an amazing structural rigidity. The coil is designed in such a way that, it minimizes the light output and hence, increases the IR emission, which further helps in increasing the IR radiant efficiency.
