Does that mean you can't get in or out? Not sure.

this meant we couldn't get back into our neighbourhood for a bit, but it was worth it.

Does it have a regular schedule?
striatic December 12, 2009, 03:58 PM
no. the boats have right of way over the cars, so when they want through the radio the tower and the bridge is lifted.

even at rush hour.

seattleites complain about this a lot, because pleasurecraft going through the bridge keep them from getting to work on time.
i disagree with these people because:

1] the ships were there first
2] it is easy to leave early and allot some time for the bridge if necessary
3] they're not all pleasurecraft, it is an industrial waterway
4] lifting bridges are keen. ships are keen. they make seattle interesting
5] the urban planning of this city is messed up, with people living too far away from work. so many bridge crossings shouldn't even be necessary

striatic you should see the urban absence of planning over here! There are miles and miles of traffic jam every morning and every evening. And I'm with you, lifting bridges are definitely cool and interesting although I haven't seen very many.

this bridge is only a couple of blocks away from our place, it also has a bike lane that i use often to get to the burke gilman trail, which is like a freeway for bikes only.

i love my neighbourhood. the bridge and bike lane are part of that.

All the people I've met who've lived in Seattle loved it. Makes me want to see it

it is a fun place to live, but you wouldn't want to visit.

@MartinaWeber - if my camera had been set for an exposure of 20-25 seconds instead of 15, the lifting bridge probably would have been even more dynamic.

@maf04 @otelo - thank you : ]

but it's quite exiting like this, more would have spoiled the picture eventually...don't you think?

@MartinaWeber - eventually maybe. but i don't think so. maybe i'm just curious to have someone try it.
