how lovely would this be if renovated? even better. what kind of area is this in?

hmm, i guess this part of town was mostly a working class area, since the the backyards would have been very dark if every old building had survived, the former port is not far away and there are also ruins of industrial buildings.

today there's a mixture of old houses, a lot of in decay, but also renovated ones, east german residential buildings and few new residential buildings.

is it the artistic area of the city: art and music, because rent is cheap and it has an alternative vibe?

no, it isn't. i'm afraid it's no accident that there was a nazi bar not far away. fortunately it's closed now because it wasn't very successful.
