Sandal wood has been smuggled out of the country for a very long time. The most amount of sandalwood was smuggled when the smuggling giant dacoit Veerappan was in power in the forests of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. It is majorly found in the Kadappa and Chittoor districts of Andhra Pradesh. It is majorly smuggled for medicinal and other uses.
