I assume this was the final point for tourists and Berliners before the wall came down. Or could one walk up to the border line without travel papers?

Another great picture, nice leading lines.

Whether by intention or not, this scene looks very Russian to me.

Certainly a heavy element of 'realpolitik' (propaganda).

The only Russian atmosphere I can see is the soldier on the lightbox - a US soldier is on the other side. Both are looking into the opposite sector.

This is an artwork, and for me the only part of the whole spot that is giving me something to think.

Thanks for the link and the explanation - a nice incognito artwork.

I hadn't realized that the soldiers were different nationalities, and
thought the American soldier was to do with a more recent conflict.

So of course this looks Russian - it is photo of a real Russian soldier.

Once again a reminder about the dangers of assumptions (Ass-u-Me).
