You make me curious. Painting on a layer in colour mode or luminance part of LAB or YCbCr conversion? I can't wait to see the solution.
Anyway, nice photo. Just focus on a leaf that stands out very clear. Is this the result of post processing or was that leaf just much lighter than its surrounding?

In a way it gives me the impression of a leaf in transition to coal.

This was the original - the contrast was there and I enhanced it a bit.

I am glad you posted the colour version. To me this is an excellent example of where the B&W conversion really makes the picture. The colour version is not so special (no offense meant ;-)) whereas the B&W one catches the eye. The whole mood has changed.

This was just a grab shot with my new point and shoot camera, testing what it can do. Just before hitting DEL I thought "Black and White?" ;-)

Never thought about it! Does a leaf always fall with the back on top? The one in the upper left did it too.
Nice shot and I can't wait to see the episode.
