And this was the image I wanted from the fight scene. Soon after I heard that both of them were available, an image came into my head of Rai-Dei coming up behind, with Vash having his gun raised and ready, sensing him, peeking over his shoulder. I am a bit surprised at how closely I got it to resemble what I had envisioned, but very satisfied!

The "fight scene" was really fun shooting, but with the one problem that I couldn't seen anything. I could see their silhouettes normally, but through the viewfinder I only saw what the AF assist beam hit, so it wasn't until I checked the LCD that I knew what I had gotten in the frame! Luckily these guys are as dedicated as they are, which raised the number of keepers dramatically.

If you look closely you will see the dedication of Aape in the omittance of socks, even as the temperature was practically 0°C.

Even at 1/128 the Nissin might have been too powerful, as there is a pretty hard shadow coming on the right.

At this point visibility was practically zero. With no light for the AF to work in I decided to take the Nissin out of the umbrella, instead mounting on the camera as it's the only Canon-compatible flash I have. In it's place came another SB-24 shooting into the umbrella. The Nissin worked mainly as AF-assist, set it at 1/128 power to have as little as possible effect on the final image.

It's not so clear from this picture, but that sphere inside the prop is actually self-illuminated, as you can see in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5IOVwQPg1k
It helped the auto-focus a bit as the temperature dropped towards zero and the light dropped to pitch-black.

Looks like I have the Nissin in the umbrella almost straight on here, with the SB-24 camera left again.

Strobist info: for most of these pics I used a Nissin Di866 shooting into a silver-reflective umbrella (usually camera-left, but I moved around a bit), and an SB-24 behind the subject also usually camera left. Would have gone for cross-lighting but the cord wasn't quite long enough... (Can't wait to get some wireless triggers!)
