After our three-day hiking trip into the Cirque de Mafate we returned to Col de Bœufs. Col de Bœufs is the connection between Cirque de Mafate and Cirque de Salazie where you can park your car to start your hike into Mafate. From this point you have a fantastic view into both Cirques.

This shot shows Cirque de Salazie where you can see the parking area on the very left, on the right is Hell-Bourg, which is a small village in the Cirque. The left small village is Grand Îlet.

As you have read on my last post (or maybe not) we were on Piton des Neiges and watched the sunrise. After looking a long time towards east, we turned around and looked directly to the west and had this beautiful view at Grand Bénare 2898m (9507 ft). On the left you can see Cilaos (which is located in a caldera and named Cirque de Cilaos), behind the ridge on the right you will find Marla (a very small village which is not reachable by car and which is also located in another caldera named Cirque de Mafate).

I hope that you enjoy this view as much as we did on top of Piton des Neiges.

During our stay on Réunion we also hiked to the summit of Piton des Neiges which is the highest point on Réunion and also the highest point in the Indian Ocean. It's possible to do the trail as a two-day hike with an overnight stay at the Gîte de la Caverne Dufour and to do the summit in the very early morning hours. We started at 03:00 AM at the Gîte to be on time at the summit for the sunrise. Together with some other people we were on the summit to wait for the sunrise. Finally we had this beautiful view at the sunrise and it was really a magic moment to see it.

You can see the rough eastern coast of Réunion near Piton Sainte-Rose. A beautiful hiking trail along the coast leads you from Piton Sainte-Rose to the Anse des Cascades (Waterfall bay) with lots of waterfalls and a small harbor.
Along the trail you are hiking through different kinds of landscapes, you are passing cold lava fields, different kinds of forests and beautiful small bays with black stones.

Since 2 weeks I'm back from my beautiful holiday on the island Réunion, a french island between Madagascar and Mauritius.

Of course I have made some photos and last week I have finished to sort out all the photos and do a little postprocessing on them. So let's start with this shot which shows you the Grand Galet Falls or also named Langevin Falls. As you may see on the shot it was raining very strong and it was hard to manage that my camera and stuff wasn't too wet during this shot.
