It was absolutely incredible to also study the photographs of all the prisoners (more than 99% got killed without trial in the end). There were so many boys and girls aged maybe 10, 6 or even 4.

Barbed wire in Tuol Sleng

We were told that before the barbed wire was installed prisoners committed suicide by throwing themselves from the upper floors into the courtyard. There seems to be some sense in preventing this if you want to torture them first and ultimately kill them...

What a horrible history this place has. I've seen Nazi concentration camps, but I thought this place was even worse. Our local guide got quite emotional when he talked about the history of Tuol Sleng in particular and the 70s and 80s in Cambodia in general.
