U.S.-Iran nuclear co-operation in the 1950s and 60s
The foundations for Iran's nuclear programme were laid after a 1953, CIA-supported coup deposed democratically-elected Prime Minister Dr. Mohammed Mossadegh and brought Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (MRP) to power. By 1957, the West judged the regime sufficiently stable and friendly that nuclear proliferation would not become a threat.
That year, a civil nuclear co-operation programme was established under the U.S. Atoms for Peace program. In 1959, the Tehran Nuclear Research Center (TNRC) was established, run by the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI). The TNRC was equipped with a U.S.-supplied 5-megawatt nuclear research reactor, which became operational in 1967 and was fuelled by highly enriched uranium. Iran signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in 1968 and ratified it in 1970. With the establishment of Iran's atomic agency and the NPT in place, the MRP approved plans to construct, with U.S. help, up to 23 nuclear power stations by the year 2000.
Gawdat Bahgat, a professor of Middle Eastern Studies states that "Despite assertions that Iran’s nuclear programme under the MRP was only for peaceful purposes, some sources claim that the MRP intended to build nuclear weapons capability. In the mid-1970s, the MRP was quoted as saying that Iran would have nuclear weapons 'without a doubt and sooner than one would think.' The Center for Non-proliferation Studies at the Monterey Institute of International Studies claims that the Western intelligence community 'had long suspected that the MRP’s nuclear scientists conducted research into military applications.'...despite these speculations on the MRP’s intentions, it is important to point out that in 1974, when the AEOI was established, the MRP called for making the entire Middle East a nuclear weapons-free zone (MENWFZ).

Don't Attack Iran

Abbas Edalat (Persian: عباس عدالت) is a professor of computer science and mathematics at Imperial College of London and a political activist.

A diplomatic, economic and military noose is being steadily but firmly tightened around the Islamic Republic of Iran which paves the way for a full scale Western military assault against the country headed by the US and UK and prodded by Israel.
The aim of the western war campaign is to once again re-colonise Iran after the 1979 Iranian Islamic revolution, as the west did by the CIA-MI5 engineered coup of 1953 against the democratically elected government of Dr Mohammad Mossadegh who led the movement for the nationalization of oil industry. The Shah’s downfall inflicted a most serious blow to the interests and the domination of the US, UK and their allies in this most strategically vital region of the world with its oil and gas resources.
Initially the west backed the invasion of Iran by Iraq which included providing Saddam Hossein with chemical weapons against Iranian soldiers, Revolutionary Guards and civilians, but the eight year war failed to overthrow the Islamic Republic. Since 9/11 there has been a massive escalation of a multi-pronged diplomatic, military, economic and propaganda war campaign against Iran with open threats of military action and open call for a regime change.
In 2004, a US presidential directive authorized stockpiling and deployment of tactical nuclear weapons against Iran. A covert military war against the Islamic Republic started as early as 2005 with US special forces making reconnaissance forays into the country over the border with Iraq. In 2008, the Bush Administration launched a $400 million budgeted covert operation against Iran by supporting the terrorist organizations of Jondollah, Pjak and MEK. This was followed in September 2010 by the “Joint unconventional warfare taskforce execute order” which authorizes US special forces to “prepare the environment [in Iran] for future offensive by the US or local forces”.
Since 2004, the west has taken up Iran’s civilian nuclear programme as a pretext to mobilize pressure and impose sanctions against the country. While the IAEA has consistently confirmed the non-diversion of nuclear material in Iran, where there is a fatwa by the Supreme leader against the production, stockpiling and use of nuclear weapons and all WMDs, the west has alleged that Iran intends to build nuclear weapons and has already experimented with military studies. Not a single shred of evidence for this allegation has ever been found by the IAEA.
In October 2010, John Sawers, the head of MI6, publicly called for “intelligence-led operations to make it more difficult for countries like Iran to develop nuclear weapons”. Since then two Iranian scientists have been assassinated in Iran and most experts point their fingers at Mossad with support from the CIA and MI6.
The latest IAEA report confirmed once again the non-diversion of all declared nuclear material, which is the only mandate of the agency with respect to its safeguards agreement with Iran. The report also expressed concern, for the first time under the new head of the agency, Yukiya Amano, who has been exposed in Wikileaks documents as a staunch ally of the US against Iran, that Iran may have experimented with military research before 2004, and that these may have continued since. These allegations are all made on the basis of documents supplied to the agency by Israel (which is known to possess a massive nuclear arsenal refusing access by IAEA inspectors to its nuclear sites), and by the US (which is still in gross violation of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty for refusing to eliminate its massive nuclear arsenals).
The US, UK and Canada have used the IAEA report in the past two weeks to sanction all Iranian banks including the Central Bank of Iran, which amounts to economic warfare against Iran.
The hasty decision by the British government to expel all Iranian diplomats from the UK in reaction to the storming of the British embassy on the anniversary of the assassination of one of the two Iranian scientists by some students in Tehran, for which the government of Iran had immediately apologized, is another step to isolate the Islamic republic in preparation for a military attack.
The hawkish western attitude to Iran, based as it is on unfounded rumours about a nuclear weapons programme, resembles that of the run-up to the invasion of Iraq. We must act now to stop the buildup of war with Iran and avert a full scale war which would be a catastrophe for the region and the whole world.

A terrorist car bomb explosion around a square in northern Tehran killed yet another Iranian nuclear scientist. The victim, identified as Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, was a chemical engineering graduate of Iran’s prominent Sharif University of Technology and served as commercial deputy of Natanz nuclear installation. Witnesses say they spotted a motorcyclist attaching a sticky bomb to Ahmadi Roshan’s car near a college of Allameh Tabatabaei University in Tehran on Wednesday morning, Presstv reported.
Ahmadi Roshan was killed instantly and his colleague, identified as Reza Qashqaei, and a bystander, who had sustained injuries, were transferred to Resalat Hospital.
Qashqaei passed away on Wednesday due to the severity of his wounds. An investigation is underway over the incident.
Wednesday’s terror bombing bears the hallmark of a 2010 terror attack that killed Majid Shahriari, another university professor, in Tehran.
On November 29, 2010, unidentified terrorists slapped sticky bombs onto the vehicles of Iranian university professors Majid Shahriari and Fereydoun Abbasi and detonated them.
Prof. Shahriari was killed immediately, but Dr. Abbasi, the current director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, and his wife sustained minor injuries and were rushed to a hospital.
On December 2, 2010, the Iranian Intelligence Ministry announced that the Israeli Mossad, the American CIA and the British MI6 all played a role in those attacks

After a nuclear holocaust, as the rest of society regresses to primitivism, a small elite group manage to escape radioactive contamination and hole up in a massive mansion surrounded by lush grounds.
In this every-man-for-himself, kill-or-be-killed, survival-of-the-fittest environment , the callous upper class now get their twisted jollies off by hunting expendable contaminated poor folks.

The story follows Alan, a decent but wimpy guy that narrowly escapes death and is nursed back to health by a tough, but tender-hearted ex-cop Sam. Sam transforms Allan into a mean, fast, ultra-lethal fighting machine through harsh, painful and arduous training for his goal of tracking down the wealthy nihilistic scum that nearly did him in.

This gritty, ugly and ferocious little film gets by on the basis of its raw, no-frills, rough-edged brutality which is what exploitation trash is all about. It unnervingly blurs the line between the good guys and the bad guys by depicting a grim future where violence and savagery are an everyday part of life.

This post-apocalyptic film sprang out of Italy after the success of the Mad Max films and set in the 31st century which spookily bears the same problems as today's world with the depletion of the Ozone layer and subsequent global warming. In this nightmarish future, the seas have dried up and the earth has become a parched desert, making water become an incredibly precious commodity.

One group of survivors send out a search party armed with a trusty map to find a supposed water supply and retrieve it. While on route the party is brutally murdered by vicious bandits who are roaming the wastelands pillaging and killing as they scavenge for water of their own.

A small boy and his hamster survive the slaughter and end up meeting a nomad with no morals who decides to use the kid for his knowledge of the water oasis whereabouts. The nomad can't wait to collect the water and sell it to the highest bidder, so together they battle their way through ambushes in the wasteland in search of quenching their thirst.

The year is 2025 and the world is rising from the ashes of the nuclear war. The favorite TV show is Endgame, a game where the prey must escape the hunters for their lives.

Al Cliver (Zombie, The Beyond) stars as Shannon, a champion prey, so good at Endgame that he is sponsored by the drug "Life Plus". One day while Shannon is doing the show, he runs into a telepathic girl (Laura Gemser of Emmanuelle fame) who desperately needs his help. The two of them get a posse together and head to the desert wasteland.

Along with having to deal with blind killer monks and a biker gang lead by a drooling blue mutant, the runaway group also has the sadistic Colonel Morgan and his Security Service in hot pursuit.

The DMZ (the demilitarized zone) above the 38th parallel between North Korea and South Korea. The DMZ stretches across the Korean Peninsula from East to West (155 miles).

Throughout the visit, we are constantly reminded not to take photos, and only at selected security stripped yellow line areas, photos are forbidden while in the tunnel. Heavy security is present.
