STRIKE COMMANDO (1987)

Directed by Bruno Mattei

Starring

Reb Brown, Christopher Connelly, Alex Vitale, Luciano Pigozzi, Louise Kamsteeg, Edison Navarro, Karen Lopez, Juliet D. Lei, and Rene Abadeza

The Strike Commando is no ordinary soldier....he's the best, most highly trained war machine in Vietnam and nothing can stop him. On a mission that gets him caught behind enemy lines, the Strike Commando (Reb Brown from Yor: The Hunter of the Future) discovers a deadly platoon led by a massive Russian sadist.

He escapes the ravages of the brutal torture-happy cretin, but the commando's job is not yet finished. He is ordered back to the jungle on a suicide mission, the objective being to document the Russian war involvement and liberate the Vietnamese who saved his life.

From the atrocious P.O.W. camp to a ferocious battle-to-the-death, the heroic Strike Commando will stop at nothing to crush the betrayers of freedom.

Italian director Bruno Mattei (Hell of the Living Dead) manages to combine hilarious bad acting, side splittingly awful dialogue, inappropriate incidental music with a plethora of jaw-droppingly silly scenes to make a great cheese stew parody of Rambo: First Blood Part 2.

THE SICILIAN BOSS (1979)

Da Corleone a Brooklyn

Directed by Umberto Lenzi

Starring

Maurizio Merli, Mario Merola, Van Johnson, Biagio Pelligra, Ventantino Venantini, Nando Marineo, Salvatore Billa and Sonia Viviani

After secretly relocating to New York from Polermo under a false identity and passport, a mafia boss is intent on settling old scores back in the old country. Meanwhile back in Rome, a cop (Maurizio Merli) is investigating one of the hit jobs and suspects a Sicilian connection which takes him to Palermo.

When the cop captures a criminal who can identify the mafia boss, the two of them start a journey across unfamiliar territory from Italy to New York. If they can last through mafia traps and violent encounters, the thug can testify and the the boss can be extradited back to Italy.

Written and directed by Umberto Lenzi (Make Them Die Slowly), his last entry into the euro-crime action genre is this lost classic and he definitely goes out with a bang. The film moves at a brisk pace with the Mafia in pursuit of Merli and his witness so the viewer never knows when they will next be attacked or by what method.

NOTTURNO (1983)

Directed by Giorgio Bontempi

Starring

Tony Musante, Claudio Cassinelli, Omero Antonutti, Fiorenza Marchegiani, Maurizio Merli, West Buchanan, Pino Colizzi and Al Cliver

The CIA (the mighty Maurizio Merli) wants to swap Russians caught during the Cold War with replacement spies during a stop off at the Rome airport. The British have a different agenda in the works though and start it by having one of their thug agents (Endgame's Al Cliver) kidnap the daughter of a black market salesman.

The salesman (The Bird with Crystal Plumage's Tony Musante) happens to have expert sharpshooting skills and the ability to see in total darkness. With his daughter being held captive, he is put in the position of having to snipe out the Russian spy guarded by hundreds of Italian soldiers in order to save her life.

It has only just begun though as personal vendettas, espionage and revenge form a powerful mix that leave many dead. Fueled with a pulsating score by Goblin and starring many legends of Italian cinema, this thriller a must for fans of the genre.

At one time a cut and spliced theatrical version of Notturno was released as well as some incoherent butchered video versions cut to save money on videotape. After discovering some rare Japanese prints, we are pleased to present this spy action epic mini-series in its complete uncut form, clocking in at nearly 8 hours.
