Die "Harzkamele" wurden Ende der 80er umgebaut, um die alten Dampflokomotiven im Harz zu ersetzen. In den 90ern kamen aber die Touristen und wollten Dampfloks sehen. Heute rangiert 199 861 in Wernigerode.

In the late 80s, the "Harz Camels" were rebuilt to replace the aging steam locomotives in the Harz. In the 90s, however, tourists came and demanded to see steam locomotives. Today, 199 861 is shunting in Wernigerode.

Nur noch drei von einst zehn (und 30 geplanten) "Harzkamelen", den stärksten Lokomotiven im Harz (1200 PS), sind noch betriebsfähig, und 199 861 ist nur noch Rangierlokomotive in Wernigerode.

Only three of once ten (and 30 planned) "Harz Camels", the most powerful locomotives in the Harz (1200hp), are still in working order, and 199 861 is only a switcher in Wernigerode anymore.

99 7239 verläßt Wernigerode-Westerntor zusammen mit 199 861, deren Vorbauten so hoch sind wie das Führerhaus der Dampflokomotive.

99 7239 is leaving Wernigerode-Westerntor together with 199 861 whose hoods are higher than the steam locomotive's cab.

Wenig wurde unternommen, um 110 861 (VEB LEW 1976) 1990 in das "Harzkamel" 199 861 umzubauen, außer daß die zweiachsigen Normalspurdrehgestelle durch dreiachsige Schmalspurdrehgestelle ersetzt wurden, um die Achslast zu reduzieren.

Little had been done to convert 110 861 (VEB LEW 1976) into the "Harz Camel" 199 861 in 1990 other than replacing the standard-gauge four-wheel bogies with narrow-gauge six-wheel bogies to reduce the axle load.
