24 Hours Blackout

Two bills before Congress, known as the Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the Senate and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House, would censor the Web and impose harmful regulations on American business. Millions of Internet users and entrepreneurs already oppose SOPA and PIPA.
The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) is a law (bill) of the United States proposed in 2011 to fight online trafficking in copyrighted intellectual property and counterfeit goods. Proposals include barring advertising networks and payment facilities from conducting business with allegedly infringing websites, barring search engines from linking to the sites, and requiring Internet service providers (ISP) to block access to the sites. The bill would criminalize the streaming of such content, with a maximum penalty of five (5) years in prison.
User-content websites such as YouTube would be greatly affected, and concern has been expressed that they may be shut down if the bill becomes law. Opponents state the legislation would enable law enforcement to remove an entire domain due to something posted on a single blog, arguing that an entire online community could be punished for the actions of a tiny minority. In a 1998 law, copyright owners are required to request the site to remove the infringing material within a certain amount of time. SOPA would bypass this "safe harbor" provision by placing the responsibility for detecting and policing infringement onto the site itself.
Lobbyists for companies that rely heavily on revenue from intellectual property copyright state it protects the market and corresponding industry, jobs, and revenue. The US president and legislators suggest it may kill innovation. Representatives of the American Library Association state the changes could encourage criminal prosecution of libraries. Other opponents state that requiring search engines to delete a domain name begins a worldwide arms race of unprecedented censorship of the Web and violates the First Amendment.
A number of protest actions were organized, including petition drives and boycotts of companies that support the legislation. On January 18, English Wikipedia and several other internet companies coordinated a service blackout to protest SOPA and PIPA

The Israeli military attacked the Freedom Flotilla in international waters in the Mediterranean Sea early on May 31, killing nine Turkish citizens on board the six ships and injuring about 50 other people. The fate of three other Freedom Flotilla activists is still unknown.
Israel also arrested nearly 700 activists from 42 countries on board the Freedom Flotilla, which was attempting to break the siege of Gaza in order to deliver 10,000 tons of humanitarian assistance to the long-suffering people of the territory.

Nine Turkish men on board the Mavi Marmara were shot a total of 30 times and five were killed by gunshot wounds to the head, according to the vice-chairman of the Turkish council of forensic medicine, which carried out the autopsies ( http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jun/04/gaza-flotilla-activists-autopsy-results ) for the Turkish Ministry of Justice. Eight of them were fathers whose children are now yatims due to the Israeli assault on the Freedom Flotilla.
As the result twenty-eight children lost their fathers as a result of the Israeli attack on the Freedom Flotilla.

Furkan Dogan, (19-year-old) who also has US citizenship, was shot five times from less than 45cm(18 inches), in the face, in the back of the head, twice in the leg and once in the back. Furkan Dogan was a high school student studying social sciences in the town of Kayseri in central Turkey and planned to become a doctor. Fulkan Dogan was born in Troy, N.Y., and moved to Turkey at the age of 2. Son of Dr. Ahmet Dogan, Assoc Prof at Erciyes University, Fulkan Dogan was Turkish-American, with two siblings.

Ibrahim Bilgen, (61 years old) an electrical engineer from Siirt and Member of the Chamber of Electrical Engineers of Turkey. After working as an electrical engineer in various companies, Ibrahim Bilgen founded Bilgen Mühendislik, an electrical engineering company, in 2004. In addition, he founded the first television channel in Siirt, the local television channel SELAM TV. He was married with 6 children.

Ali HaydarBengi, (39 years old), from Diyarbakir. Graduate of Al-Azhar University, Cairo (Department of Arabic literature). Married with 4 children.

Cevdet Kiliçlar, (38 years old), from Kayseri. Originally a journalist, worked for the past year as webmaster for the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) Married with two children.

Çetin Topçuoglu, (54 years old), from Adana. Former amateur soccer player and taekwondo champion, who coached Turkey’s national taekwondo team. Married with one son.

Necdet Yildirim, (32 years old), an IHH aid worker from Malatya. Married with a three-year-old daughter.

Fahri Yaldiz, (43 yers old), a firefighter who worked for the Municipality of Adiyaman. Married with four children.

Cengiz Songür, (47 years old), from Izmir. Married with six daughters and one son.

Cengiz Akyüz. (41years old), from Iskenderun. Married with children aged 14, 12 and nine.

The DMZ (the demilitarized zone) above the 38th parallel between North Korea and South Korea. The DMZ stretches across the Korean Peninsula from East to West (155 miles).

Throughout the visit, we are constantly reminded not to take photos, and only at selected security stripped yellow line areas, photos are forbidden while in the tunnel. Heavy security is present.
