THE LAST HOUSE ON THE BEACH (1978)

La Settima donna

A trio of bank robbers drive to a remote beach house where they plan to hide from the authorities after a successful heist. Things don't go exactly as planned though since the house is currently being occupied by an attractive nun and five teenage girls who are practicing a play under her supervision.

The schoolgirls become the objects of violent torture games, vicious rapes and eventually murder by the evil men. The horrified nun renounces her teachings with the remaining girls, seek bloody vengeance.

Obviously inspired by Wes Craven's Last House on the Left, The Last House on the Beach's director Franco Prosperi also succeeds in making another mean-spirited, sickening rape/revenge flick that shouldn't be viewed if you are already feeling a bit depressed.

When a plane carrying a million dollars in cash crashes, only one person lives through it and knows where it went down. The survivor (Franco Nero) ends up staying and making a living as a shark hunter on an island off the Mexican coast, dreaming of one day recovering the treasure that lies at the bottom of the sea.

There becomes an urgency to recover the loot when corrupt local police officers, thugs, and a CIA agent on "holiday" all learn about the treasure as well. A frenzied battle erupts in the shark infested waters with everyone involved and a fortune at stake.

Enzo G. Castellari (Inglorious Bastards) includes himself in the cast and again directs his pal Franco Nero in this suspense action spectacle, beautifully filmed on exotic location. Although not exactly a legit entry in the "Sharksploitation" sub genre, the film features some of the greatest shark attack sequences ever as well as a phenomenal score by the De Angelis brothers.

Franco Nero stars as con man with disguise in this great Italian crime thriller written and directed by the late Alfredo Giannetti (The Shark Hunter).

During the day, Nero works in a big money firm disguised as an elderly crippled accountant by wearing a grey haired wig and brown contact lenses to cover his piercing blue eyes. His employers are none the wiser about his hidden identity and when it becomes time to rob them blind, the flash of his natural blue eyes throws them off track.

Unfortunately the plan isn’t quite perfect and the snoopy security guard, gay masseuse and slutty wife of the company's cafeteria chef start finding suspicious clues that may lead to his capture.

Cool plot twists, rich character development and a great score by Ennio Morricone all contribute to make this a superbly entertaining flick.

A word is put out that they are keeping the girl hostage for a large ransom, but in the meantime she must endure some horrible situations while being guarded by the satanic giant. It all up to a hunter, who sets off deep into the jungle to try and track down the tribe, slay The Devil, and rescue the helpless girl.

Jess Franco directs this rare jungle-horror flick and fills it with his staples of sleaze, nudity and gore.

The remaining gangsters flee into the jungle pursued by the parents and a pack of gut-munching flesh eating cannibals.
