SHOCKING DARK (1990)

Its the future, and the city of Venice is an underwater stronghold which now contains a fully functional conglomerate company that have been experimenting with evolutionary DNA on humans. No one has heard from the occupants for some time so a crack unit of marines are shipped out to get to the bottom of it.

Once inside the labyrinth of corridors, the unit are soon attacked by crazed technicians who have been infected by the DNA project. The danger of the mutant deformities and creatures increase the deeper they get towards their objective of the main laboratory.

While managing to evade the monstrous onslaught, surviving team members discover a young girl sole survivor they eventually coax into guiding them to the lab. All is not as it seems though as amongst the ranks there is a robotic humanoid ready to sabotage the mission and make sure that the DNA project survives outside of the complex.

Bruno Mattei and his writer Claudio Fragasso are at it again with this audacious exercise in plagiarism which produces this Italian version of James Cameron's Aliens with a touch of Terminator thrown in for the final act.

In the bleak future world of 1997, the earth is bleached and battered by toxic gases and acid rain. The human race teeters on the verge of extinction and a half-man, half-machine cyborg is hired to terminate the one lone scientist (Dr. Butcher M.D.’s Donald O'Brien) that can give mankind hope.

The cyborg sympathizes with the scientist but a ruthless programmer (John Saxon) is determined to finish the mission and bring on utter disaster.

Sergio Martino (Slave of the Cannibal God) directs this apocalyptic action fest that features music by Claudio ‘Goblin’ Simonetti and Special FX by Sergio Stivaletti.

A top secret government cyborg (Striker’s Frank Zagarino) is accidentally activated while being transported between locations and the psychopathic Hammer (Henry Silva) is put to the task of recovering the Cy Warrior hardware.

The Hammer decides that the cyborg should be destroyed instead and has his team of robot hunting commandos hunting the elusive target, killing the many innocent that happen to be in their path.

Giannetto De Rossi (special fx maestro on Lucio Fulci’s Zombie, The Beyond and more) makes his directorial debut with this hilariously bad cheese fest, best viewed intoxicated.
