Lovely sunny day in Dublin, and I had plans to go to a flea market in Ranelagh, which turned out to be more flea than market. Nobody was selling old stuff, and most importantly, nobody was selling vinyl. So I left and bought a battered copy of The great Gatsby, thinking that this sunny day is as good as any for digging into a classic. Milltown Park provided the settings, which were less romantic, it was more like a lawn in front of a car park really.</p> <p style="margin-bottom: 0px;">Not sure how they got away with the whole park thing. There's 14000 licenses given out. Compare that to the ~12000 licenses on Manhattan, and you have an idea of how much of a life nerve they are, and how much more they have to struggle to stay in business.</p> <p>I think, that what I like about them the most is the diversity. You get anything from immigrants, to accountants having a 2nd job to provide for their family, to fellas like this one, who's doing what they always did - drive a taxi.</p> <p>People like this guy has great stories coming out their sleeeves, and it's all for the narrative. I guess most of the stories aren't even half true, but for some reason, they just have a knack for storytelling. I guess it comes with the territory. And I thank them for it.</p> <p style="margin-bottom: 0px;">I'm always reminded of this great song by <a rel="nofollow" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Tur%C3%A8ll">Dan Turéll</a>, a famous Danish beatnik poet and author. He wrote a song (or poem, whichever way you wanna go) called "I should've been a cab driver", and it told the story of himself, as a cab driver, and how he would be able to talk about the weather like noone else.
