it was one hell of a hot summer the summer of 2004. i arrived in Faro while the EURO was still going on... had a great week with Almut. took a little detour to Los Angeles, and wrote a fair chunk of that first story.

Libania my dearest cousin and her mobile, inseparable! These days she is in London and we use Skype or IM. With my friends Andrea and Annick, we celebrated Libania's divorce in Faro. My good cousin, the sophisticated art historian educated in the French elite schools, is a great friend and I love the fact that I always feel like a country bumpkin next to her. We laugh a lot. Her mother and my mother are first cousins.

what i would call decadence: just jogged in the early hours at the beach in Quarteira, kept the gi on and drove to Faro and met my cousin for a coffee. life is rough on some days.
