Being alcohol dependent means that you are unable to function properly without it, to overcome this condition; you will also need to choose between abstinence and moderation. Abstinence is only recommended for people with moderate drinking habits and not for those with alcohol dependence as it might have deadly consequences.

Alcohol is one of the substances that have been abused for the longest time in history. Many people love the effect that one gets after taking it. All the stress is relieved, while the mood is boosted immediately after taking alcohol. It stimulates the secretion of serotonin, which boosts an individual’s mood. The worst thing is that the higher the amount of alcohol taken, the higher the secretion of serotonin. It is for such reasons that the majority abuse alcohol.

Each behavior possessed by an individual has its cause. It can either be learnt or inherited from another person. There are many things that can lead to substance abuse, some of which we have no control over. Research shows that having a family history of substance abuse makes a person more at risk for alcohol and drug abuse (SACFS.pdf). This cause can be termed as hereditary. It can be something that is in the family’s blood. Some families, especially the modern ones, go with their children to liquor joints where they take alcohol in the presence of their kids. When a kid matures, he or she will tend to continue with the same behavior and in most cases become a drug addict.

One thing that people always have to worry about after substance abuse treatment is the life after. There are some people who may not have the strength to cope after treatment. It takes a lot to keep a recovering addict on the right track. This is why some people prefer inpatient treatment to make sure that an individual is able to handle some form of responsibility. Some however may need more time to acclimate to their new life. Doing this at a residential facility may not be a feasible option considering the costs that come with it. However, such an individual has an option of the halfway house.

In the cases where drinking becomes continuous and more of a daily activity or generates into a controlling drinking habit, seeking how to detox from alcohol is an important step to overcome the issue caused by drinking to excess. This is where the difficulty and risk come in handy. When a person stops drinking alcohol,‘cold turkey’, just wake up and quits because they think it is time to do so and it is easy to it, the resulting consequences can be deadly. Abrupt cessation of alcohol consumption can cause heart seizure, convulsions, and even hallucinations that may bring about death.

My name is Myra (Name Changed) I had no degree, though I had completed two years of college but had dropped out due to drug and alcohol addiction problems and after I became sober,I decided to become a substance abuse counselor because I thought I could associate with people like me who are going through this trauma. Now that I have become a counselor and helping people to deal with their addiction problem and help them start their life afresh I decide to help my fellow friends to become substance abuse counselor.

There are treatment centers to treat eating disorders as it is a condition that needs treatment. Under the unhealthy diet disorder lays not only body image but self-critical beliefs that are distorted. Such negative thoughts trigger damaging and unhealthy behaviors. They try to deal with their painful emotions by overeating or restricting food. Overeating gives relief temporarily and purging is made use of to deal with self-loathing and helplessness. As time goes they get obsessed with food and weight, they cannot visualize themselves in an objective manner. Persons with eating disorder try to deal with stress and emotions in their mind, and they need help from treatment centers.
