New theme ideas
I was in St Ives last weekend and found my self walking along a railway line, but didn't have camera with me. I did take quite a few shots of narrow passage ways between old fisherman cottages and will post these when I get a chnace to do so - maybe Thursday night.

Owz- I really like the railway line shots.

New theme ideas
I went out yesterday to watch my sister play rugby in Bridgend - I walked to the match along the cycle track (which is the old railway line from Ogmore Vale to Bridgend). 10 mile round trip, my legs were stiff afterwards!

New theme ideas
I went out today to Llangollen to take some photos along the canal but it was poor conditions. I have uploaded two images of a crane thing I found on route and also added a few older images. Hopefully I'll get another chance this weekend to take some more.

New theme ideas
No, you can crop them. Just upload the full size "cropped" image. Don't resize them to 1280* or whatever. You images are fine.

All this means is that others in the group can then download a decent size copy of the image if they want to tweak it to show how they might improve the image.

The original idea with this group (of course there was only two of us, seems a little grand referring to it as a group!) was that we would have a reason to actually get out and take some shots but also that we should be commenting on and criticising others shots and offering help, sometimes the easiest way to do that is by re-editing the image.

As an example owz uploaded this image: http://www.23hq.com/photogroup/anobeithiol/photo/5362822

I adjusted it like this:
http://www.23hq.com/vortigern/photo/5365208

I could have said in a comment "I'd adjust the curves, lighten the pillars and boost the saturation in the greens and blues" but that does not help as much as seeing the finished result. And other than the obvious exposure problems I did not know what I would do to the image until I tried it.

I should have added what I had done to the image in a comment but as there was only owz and I in the group at that time and he was at my house that weekend I just showed him.

The other thing I should have done was make it obvious that it was not my image!

And when I suggest that it be a "rule" for that images be available for others to play with I really mean more like a default, if anyone wants to not do that then just make it known.

As an example where having a full size image is of little use:
http://www.23hq.com/photogroup/anobeithiol/photo/5380423

(sorry owz for using you as an example all the time! but you do have the most photos ;) )

This image has problems caused by the editing, to improve that it would be better to have the un-edited version.

I hope that clears things up rather than adding to the confusion but basically there are no rules and people should not be concerned whether something meets the theme or not, if you think it does, it does.

Finally try to "tag" the images with the theme, so in this case tag the images with "byways" (you have tagged yours by-ways", we should make it obvious what the tag is when we come up with the theme in future). This makes it easy to find all shots for the current or past themes.

Whew,

TLDR version: Just upload the images!

New theme ideas
Just a quick question Vortigern - does 'full size' mean dimensions? I read your post after I posted a few shots, which I croped - apologies if you meant dimensions. My bad, won't happen again.

New theme ideas
There are some great images coming in for the theme, I'll have to get out and take a few myself this weekend!

Maybe I'll try a different Motorway bridge tomorrow on the way home!!

New theme ideas
The motorway shot is amazing mate! I'm sure with practise you'll nail it. Nothing wrong with Sarn services as a location either. Much better than my lame efforts.

Cem is very keen. I'll make sure he's signed up on the website. We went out on Sunday (first time in a long time)

Cheers

New theme ideas
Great idea for the theme! I think the one looking from above is better. I think that idea is worth pursuing, you will soon get an idea of what will work and what won't.

I might <strike>steal</strike> have a go at that idea myself!

New theme ideas
Just been out after work and took a few shots with the tripod - f/22 with shutter speed set to 15-30 seconds.
I think the idea is ok, but could have picked better locations perhaps.

New theme ideas
Can I just suggest that it be a "group-rule" that images be uploaded in full size and to expect others to comment and even re-edit/process the images for the limited purpose of re-posting them to the group.

They are not able to start flogging them on postcards or anything but like I did with your snowy image (http://www.23hq.com/vortigern/photo/5365208).

Although it should be made clear in the image description or a very quick comment that the image is not the poster's in order to avoid the, slightly embarrassing, situation that happened there where someone outside the group comments on it without realising its history.

Although I think she was referring to my superb post-processing rather than owz actual photography there, of course! ;)

New theme ideas
Ok, we need a new theme. I was thinking "byways" after watching Tir cymru" (watch it here: http://www.s4c.co.uk/clic/e_level2.shtml?programme_id=339439557) the other night.

Basically anything that is a "way": canals, railways, roads, footpaths, disused railways or old roads. Or anything on them, people, animals, old stuff.
