Outside Preservation Hall, its unlit sign quietly announces the location surrounded by the bright neon party atmosphere only one block off Bourbon Street. Preservation Hall opened for music in 1961 and still hosts traditional jazz, often to SRO audiences.

At Preservation Hall in New Orleans. This is regarded as a home base for traditional New Orleans jazz, and the veteran band on stage did not disappoint. At the SRO 8:00 show, I was struck by how the first two rows, sitting on the floor, comprised mostly teenagers. It was a strong visual dichotomy of age and race, but transcended by interest in the music.
