I've been taking pictures of these for a while, so I decided to figure out what they were.

As near as I can guess, they are Indian Blanket (Sundance).

It turns out I was wrong (but not too far), this is a Common Blanket (Gaillardia aristata).

Eight-spotted Skimmer (female/immature). I thought Twelve-spotted but a local expert tells me the wingtip markings are missing, plus we're outside of their range. I have more pictures if anyone is interested, but this is the best (it was windy).

This is a crane fly. We call them Daddy longlegs, why I don't know. It's a little jaggy here, but seems okay on the clickthrough. Those round extensions below the wings (halteres) are for flight dampening.
