Keramik Kernstock
I got to know Keramik Kernstock, when i escorted a classmate there, who was making Escher's "Pedalternorotandomovens Centroculatus Articulosus" in clay ...
Later, in the early 90s, when I started working with pottery, I bought all the stuff there and brought the stuff to bake in their oven.
The owner was a real special old man - Herr Kernstock, who once described my works on the phone to his wife (she worked at the baking place) like that: "You know, the stuff that looks like rumpled up rainbows" .. of course she knew my stuff ...
I think it was still the 90s, when Herr Kernstock died and his wife carried on tending the shop ...
Although i had stopped working with pottery once in a while i would go in and chat a little with the wonderful lady.
Sadly Frau Kernstock also died two or three years ago, their son couldn't afford to keep the shop (though he's still in the pottery business).
What's always funny to note, is, that like about everybody in this town who works with pottery will know the Kernstocks.
I always think with a lot of affection of this original couple and how they contributed to my love of art.
