i've read a lotta good books lately, and more than my share of bad. won't mention the bad (too many words already..), but 'tree of smoke' by denis johnson one great book i've missed mentioning. and every once in a while comes a book that.just.changes.things. naomi klein's 'the shock doctrine', to me, is that book. nonfiction, and sadly so. explores the keynesian/friedman economic battle that has taken place over the last eighty years or so and lays out the almost unbelievable but yet so obvious bread crumb trail of blood a certain sect of economists have been able to create by following/pushing their theory of 'free markets'. ties bush to pinochet, yeltsin to the tianamen (sp?) sq massacre, all through the doctrine of 'shock therapy' or in her words as well, 'disaster capitalism'. a clear connection between the ubiquitous corporate greed syndrome and why a country as wholesome and good as america support(ed)(s) dictators , torture and terror. halfway through so i dont have a final 'verdict', but already easily one of my->the must-reads

joseph stiglitz review from the nyt

a lotsa words summary if that sounded good
