seeing c. gibbs at the rodeo bar is, in spirit, like seeing coltrane at the vanguard. it is just the perfect place to hear this music (altho did see him at the slightly more avant knotting factory and the music worked very well there as well). the genre impossible to pigeonhole - (and the mini-restaurants that sprawl across the sidewalk with the plastic chairs and tables, heineken and vodka, yellowed chicken and sauces of colors i haven't seen before..? ate every chance i
