Historical laundry/bleachery at the Nederlands Openluchtmuseum (Dutch Open Air Museum) in Arnhem.

From 1817 until 1932, this bleachery was owned by the Gehrels family. It was the last laundry in the Netherlands to be driven by horsepower.
The upper middle classes would have their washing collected by out-of-town laundries every three to six months. Depending on the preference of the customer, the laundry would return the washing dry, damp or ready to put away in the wardrobe. In the laundry you can see every stage of this process. First, the washing was sorted - a dirty and unhygienic task. It was then washed in pounding vats which were driven by a horse in the horse mill. After this, the washing was taken on large barrows to the bleaching fields, where it was laid out in the sun to bleach. Next, it was rinsed clean again in ice-cold water. Finally, the washing was dried, put through a mangle, ironed and folded.

The eye-catcher of the Hortus is the three-climate greenhouse (built in 1993). Here, you will find plants from three different climates: subtropical, tropical and desert. This pic was taken in the tropical part.

This statue of Xochipilli (AKA Prince of Flowers) was found at Tlalmanalco on Popocatépetl volcano and is dated approximately 1450 A.D. The god's body has carved flowers including coaxihuitl (Turbina corymbosa), source of ololiuhqui seeds. It is possible to observe rosettes of the sectioned caps of the mushrooms called xochinanacatl or "flower mushrooms" in Nahuatl, probably Psilocybe aztecorum. The face of Xochipilli is contorted as if seeing visions in ecstasy, and the head is tilted as if hearing voices (R.G. Wasson).

The building of the former Jesuit college today houses the National Museum of the Viceroyship (Museo Nacional del Virreinato). Inside the church found there, you can walk to this octagonal room, the Camarín, which ranks as one of the finest examples of Mexican High Baroque art. The hand of Indigenous artists can be detected in the shapes and composition of the retablos and of the ceiling. The figures of the archangels and the black oxidised representations in silver are remarkable. The early ribbed vaulting in the Camarín shows Mudéjar influence. The light entering through the alabaster windows contributes to the magnificent overall impression.
