I eventually learned that they are very flimsy technology, easily breaking or failing in various ways.</p> <p style="margin-bottom: 0px;">This pair simply stopped working one day. I just found it and asked my wife to fix it - she understands electronics and I don't at all. I don't know what exactly she did, but they work now.
