Creature films that are about the mutation and the wrath of nature have been around since the 1950's. There have been many films earlier that involved creatures from space, but it took awhile for the genre to split from pure science fiction to the "what if?" scenarios of earths own natural inhabitants being mutated, banding together, or their brutal primal insticts unleashing terror upon humans.

The creatures in these films are often gigantic in proportions or of great numbers which causes havoc and mass destruction on society. The stories focus their action on humanity's efforts to destroy the creature and restore natural order, often lead by scientists or the military. Origins of the creatures vary from human construction, failed scientific experiments, negative impact of technology, or pure nature in its angriest state.

The phenomenal success of Steven Spielberg's classic shark film Jaws (1975) spawned a myriad of films hoping to cash in on the wave which produced films like Piranha (1978), Orca (1977), and some of the smaller know cult classics you will find here like Enzo G. Castellari's The Last Shark (1980) and Antonio Margheriti's Killer Fish (1979). There is no end in sight for this genre since bigger budget Hollywood productions like Anaconda (1997), Deep Blue Sea (1999), and the very recent Snakes on a Plane (2006) are still being released and regenerate the intrigue.

Even with copycat like structures and ripped off elements, you can be sure that each film presented here is different in its own way. Some will genuinely scare you, some will make you laugh out loud and want to create a drinking game. One thing they will all do is entertain.
