this is a axolotl, the latin name: ambystoma mexicanum

it's an extremely interesting and weird little fellow with amazing healing/regeneration abilities. Normal wound-healing in animals occurs through the growth of scar tissue, the axolotl however is fully capable of complete limb re-growth, it has even been known to grow additional limbs. see more

oh wow never thought i would see an AJOLOTE as we call them in spanish in 23, i am from mexico city where in the Xochimilco lake (close where the city was founded by aztecs long long ago) there is a small reserve to keep these guys from being endangered species, it is one of those peculiar curiosities of biology
