I'm not that familiar with Fotki (if at all to be honest...), so could you elaborate a little on the friendly urls? Does it work both for photos and albums, and is there any more magic that I'm not thinking of?

Fotki is the best photo sharing service I had found so far, although it annoys the hell out of me that I go through the trouble of posting extremely detailed bug reports, and the Customer Service replies with boilerplate stuff. Anyway, my point is that there's a lot to observe/learn from Fotki.
Here's an example of a friendly URL:
http://public.fotki.com/splint/art/statues/dorsay_beeld.html
username: splint
folder: art
subfolder: statues
image name: dorsay_bleed
Nice and clean.
The folder/subfolder structure in itself is something I appreciate about Fotki, and unique among the services I evaluated. Here's an example of a nice folder structure:

I'm only wondering how hard it becomes for casual users to manage folder? I'm guessing there's a fallback of using IDs at Fotki as well?
Love the comparison chart, although I guess I'd suggest a few more categories. How about "Email subscriptions", "Control look and feel" or even "API"? ;-)
And (just because I have you here) would you mind changing the name of this site to "23"?

> I'm only wondering how hard it becomes for casual users to manage folder?
Not sure I understand the question... Fotki users are mostly non-technical folks, many are even old photographers who post landscape pictures from their corners of the world. They create albums and folders very easily. The best way to get a feel is to create a Fotki account and give it a try.
> I'm guessing there's a fallback of using IDs at Fotki as well?
Nope... why would there be one?
> How about "Control look and feel"
Added - please see the notes on Wikipedia.
> or even "API"? ;-)
Added, albeit somewhat obscure compared to Flickr Services. Some links/docs on the API would be great in the help/FAQ, as I was only able to find random bits on the Forum and no specs.
> "Email subscriptions"
If it's this one, will add tomorrow.
> And (just because I have you here) would you mind changing the name of this site to "23"?
Done, np.

I'll try out Fotki...
For sharing, also have a look at this one:

(I really love that you're doing such a thorough job...)

Thanks, I probably suffer from a yet-to-be diagnosed compulsion which which makes me do such comparisons. The "Subscription" column is now added to Wikipedia, and 23 receives the only "green". Congrats!

From http://seo2.0.onreact.com/top-10-fatal-url-design-mistakes:
* "Numbers instead of speaking URLs: Decide, 123 or angelina-jolie-naked, which URL speaks your language, which one you'll rather click?"

Yeah, I don't doubt for a second that you're right -- but it's something that's really, really hard to change once you're up and running ;-)

There's a decent interim solution: fake friendliness by adding a friendly suffix which is actually ignored. 43things.com did that.
Before:
http://www.23hq.com/dandv/photo/3579310
After:
http://www.23hq.com/dandv/photo/3579310/cliff-builders-20g-protein-bar
(of course, http://www.23hq.com/dandv/photo/3579310/angelina-jolie-naked will display the same picture)

It's actually not that hard to make freindly URLs, but it depends on the backend. For example, many CMS and blog system out there use the normal ugly URLs for everything, but use mod_rewrite on Apache-like servers to rewrite URLs based on simple rules.
You can often fall back to using the old format, but when a URL is generated for any sort of "permalink" it is provided nicely formatted.
