free photo tagging software

I think i'm gonna come off sounding like an advert, but oh well.

For the last year or so i've been trying to find some decent, free or cheap, software to tag my photos. I've tried dozens of progammes: Picasa (good software, terrible tagging), F-spot (great if linux is your main OS), picajet (better than picasa for tagging, but still not right), plus dozens of others that always get suggested. They are all ok for drag and drop tagging, but once you have over a screen of tags that becomes a nightmare.

Eventually i shelled out a fortune for lightroom, which was pretty awesome, but still not perfect (and kinda sluggish on my pc).

Anyway, to cut a long story short, a few days back I discovered Windows Live Photo Gallery and its great. TBH I've always avoided Microsoft, but this is free, pretty lightweight, fast, has autocomplete tagging, and has a really cool import feaure that splits photos into logical groups.
Its still in beta, so its missing the odd feature (photo straightening) but if you take a lot of pics and are into tagging i recommend checking it out. (PS/ it has a cool, autostitch style panorama maker).
You can get it from Microsoft at:

Also, it has an API to allow services to be added. I have no idea what that would take, they currently only have Live Picture gallery and Flickr supported, but if 23 could use the API to add the service it'd be a great way to (a) allow users to upload easily, and (b) promote the site.

PS/ I hope that didn't come off as too much of an advert. I have no vested interest.. I just thought some guys here might want to check it out.
(F-spot is a pretty cool alternative if you are on linux).

I'm still searching for something that makes mass tag management easy and simple to use.
I use F-Spot and it's pretty good but when tagging a load of new images is a bit of a ball ache.

Whilst using a M$ product would make me feel a bit dirty if it gets the job done better than the competition I'd still use it. Alas I doubt it will run in Ubuntu :D
