23's other products...

So I just spent about 30 minutes poking around the basics of their "visualblog" product using the 30day trial. It's a fairly featurefull media blogging platform. The customizable embedded video player was a pretty nice setup.

I'm not sure individuals are their target at their pricepoints, but it does seem to inherit a lot of it's functions from 23(photo-sharing).

I'm curious which came first? The portal product seems to include a lot (and then some) that is possible here, but without some of the community features.

The whole package would be more tempting if you could associate the two accounts and share the media library... allowing you to have a more polished blog format for a selection otherwise shared normally via 23. (think of the oft requested "portfolio" feature on flickr).

There are some caveats in that 23visualblog is designed to allow commerical use. 23, here, explicitly prohibits it. But anyway it is a nice product and you should have a look... granted most of us here are perfectly comfortable setting up wordpress or other free options for that task.

I'd be curious about other integration paths/options if they ever decide to offer ones I can't think of based on the cursory review.

If anyone checks out the video one be sure to share thoughts.

I looked at the video one the other day. I immediately thought "this isn't a consumer product" based on the pricing Kr 3500 per month excluding tax. That's almost NZ$1000/month (or about US$700/month).

The visualblog one is vastly more modest. But still more than i'd pay for a media blog as an individual. (they have 4 price points depending on bandwith and number of authors etc).

The quick explanation is that 23 photo sharing is a single community site for personal/private/individual photo sharing, whereas Visualblog and 23 Video are commercial products. They're designed to allow companies and organization to set up Web TV stations or photo/video blogs hosted on their own domain with their own design etc.

Both 23 Video and Visualblog is designed for relatively few people to communicate to many through photos and video; 23 photo sharing is designed as a community product for individuals to connect with individuals.

As for the pathway to having different products: 23 photo sharing in beta by early 2004 (I think?) and launched in 2005; Visualblog launched in 2007 and 23 Video in 2009.
