This is really not bad. It looks like this slide is quite contrasty, so capturing the nuances digitally is going to be tricky.

If you want to focus on one very important slide capture and get the most possible dynamic range, you might try copying it at this exposure, +2 EV over, and -2 EV under, and then using an HDR technique to combine the three images into a single tone-mapped image.

I would also like to see a higher-res image, but I think you're on the right track.

Following a comment from Rolf I have had another look at the RAW conversion. I am now of the impression that it is not just contrast but saturation which needs to be dealt with. I will try again.
