I dont know the owner of that forest patch and what is the story of the management. Stricter nature protection in the Salem Pond mosaic is mostly limited to the ponds themselves and some sensitive species, it's not a "Bannwald" but timber stands on forestry roads accessible to the public.
Of course logging is usually not really something done for fun, or for great profit here. Guess it was needed to thin out the patch, or there was storm damage or the beetle in.
I know that kind of thing. Karl is owning only two hectar over in bavaria, but it is a constant source of big trouble and spare firewood selling far below what a a person should earn for their time of hard physical work.
