Hello, for me, it makes no sense, that i have 20 empty fotonotes on one picture from different people. Or is it a new way of fun for the people?

The same happened on several of my images.
Is there any way to completely get rid of any trace of the fotonote box left by them?

Same here, i've had at least 4 photos with these footnotes (luckily not got one that's got more than one!), all empty and same size in the middle of the pictures. It seems to be photos that are a bit popular and the users don't seem to exist... (example: http://www.23hq.com/15%C2%B0C/photo/8297219?) Not sure what it is. Does not bother me too much if it is harmless but it's certainly odd!

Hi Thomas,
Good with detective work and a list of users ;-) In fact all the users you're listing have been registered from the same IP address so we're considering it spam. To combat this, the IP range has been banned from accessing the service.

Users "krickpors", "daubendiejosp", "mpromshop", "ifedoriwstan", "loccololoui", "ifedoriwstan", "bdonbert", "evonebrun", "fcduffshen" and "attermanthan" are several more suspects. I just deleted about a hundred or more empty fotonotes from them.
My guess is, this is done pre-emptively to prepare for spam (by modifying the fotonotes' content later on).
I'd suggest to give users the ability to delete excessive empty fotonotes (e.g. more than two empty fotonotes by the same user) and/or report them as spam.

Alrighty -- I've been a long time coming up with a fix this time around, really sorry about that.
We've added an option under Settings to control who gets to add fotonotes to a photo. By default it's set to allow only your contacts to do so, and fotonotes can even be disable entirely.
I'm fairly confident that this is a good fix: It covers 95% of all use cases for fotonotes by default -- and blocks out spammers entirely in the default setting. Should be good.

Thanks, this'll really help.
Any chance you might add a black list setting as well — e.g. when someone adds a fotonote and I delete it, give the option to add this user to a black list? This way one can leave the setting open to all 23 users, but easily kick out the spammers as they raise their heads.

I've got two photos which regularly get spammed, while all others seem to be left alone — for the moment. Maybe temporarily add a function to disable fotonotes on selected photos only?

I have banned and closed a lot of accounts now and hopefully this will also halt the flow. The best recommendation though is to keep the setting at Contacts Only for a bit to keep those guys out.
