Access to originals

Hi,
I have a few questions concerning originals of photographs and/or managing accesss permissions.
(1) I know that I can make the originals of my photos available 'globally'. There is a comment though on the settings page that it is possible to selectively allow specific users to download originals instead of just everyone. However, I cannot find it.
(2) For me, the question whether the original should be available depends not only on the user viewing it, but more often than not it depends on the photograph itself. So, is there a possibility to make the original available for specific images or albums? If not, please consider this a feature request. ;-)
Regards,
Robert

ad (1): You have to add the user to your contacts, then in "Contacts" edit the user and give them acces to your private photos.
ad(2): Please consider the request supported ;)

I did not realise that access to private photos is actually connected to access to the originals. I do not feel that it should be that way, since these are quite different permissions... but thanks nonetheless. :-)

I would prefer to see this as an option in photogroups: Allowing members of a photogroup to see the original size of posted photos (or not). So you would have a simple and differential way to contol who (the members of the group) could see the original size of which photos (this which are posted there).

The photogroup idea is intriguing, though I would still opt for albums, at least additionally. A group functions as a sort-of semi-private album, where a classical album is what's needed for public pictures. In both scenarios, I can think of cases where I want users to have access to the originals and cases where I do not, depending solely on the pictures themselves. So if at all possible, I would love to see both possibilities.

I like the idea of having all three options – per photo, per album, and per group. As I am a big fan of tags, I'd also like to propose a per tag option ;)

First, you're all forgetting the send feature: This actually allows you to select a list of photos (could even be all the photos in an album) and create a URL or send an email with those photos. As a part of sending those photos, you're also granting access to the original version of a photo. I think this covers the ad hoc permissions pretty nicely.
As you'll probably all know by now, I don't like permissions in multiple levels (that's by photo, by album, by group, by tag all mashed together). The problem isn't you nice people -- but all the non-super users. This is the reason why we try to keep stuff simple ;-)

Well... the normal (single picture) URLs do not circumvent the access level set for that image (and rightly so). I have not yet seen a function to create a multi-picture-URL. Maybe I'm blind. ;-)
The send feature seems to require the receivers either to have a 23 account or to create one of those light-weight accounts also used for private group access, if I am not mistaken. Unfortunately I know for a fact that this is not acceptable for everyone.
Apart from that, these possibilities do not solve the problem that 'access to an image' is not the same as 'access to an image's original'. In some cases, I want the original to be generally downloadable, without having to 'invite' everyone on a case-by-case basis. In others I do not. It would just be nice if I could select that on an image-by-image basis, the most simple being a similar interface to the selection of the 'public' property.
At the moment, I can do one of two things: (1) scale down every image myself before uploading, meaning that I do not even have access to the originals from abroad myself, or (2) create two accounts with different settings. Apart from it being impractical I am not even sure if 23's ToS would allow for that...
For now I will just rescale everything myself before uploading, so I will be able to live with that particular limitation of 23. Would have been a nice feature nonetheless. ;-)
