Why should I renew my plus?

So, my plus account recently ran out and I'm not so sure if I will renew. The reason for my doubts: There has been no development on the site in the last months.
Is there any hope that this site will get further improvements? Or is all energy going into the video site?

Hey nath,
Let me answer in two ways:
- You should renew your Plus subscription if you want to upload more that 30 photos per month. That's pretty much a given.
- There's a lot of hope for further development; but you're right the 23 Video is stealing away time from work on 23 Photo Sharing. Our video service shouldn't be considered a competitor though. 23 Video is the reason why we'll be hiring at least three new people at 23 over the next few months, and this will impact the photo sharing site as well. The services run on the same servers and on the same platform, so scaling and improving one thing also means scaling and improving another. 23 is our child and it is absolutely something we're devoted to developing and bettering ;-)

Steffen, I must say that I am wondering the same thing. My flickr account is expiring in July and I see little evolution here. Recovering photos from flickr hasn't evolved and although I still have time before I decide to renew my 23 subscription or not, I haven't seen anything new for months now, and it makes me wonder

Why did I renew my plus?
For me, it's a question of principle. First and foremost, flickr's acquisition by Yahoo and following migration to the US of A (they were Canadian once) threw up the question of information privacy, which I perceive as non-existant in the US.
Top that with flickr/Yahoo's heavy-handed step into censoring "inappropriate" content for German users, and you can see why I prefer 23 as an alternative, even if some of flickr's features may be more "shiny" around the edges.
I prefer to support a company that doesn't, in a case of "vorauseilendem Gehorsam" (roughly "preemptive compliance"), remove virtually every photo that shows as much as a few inches of bare skin under the guise of "protection of taste". I prefer to define my taste myself, thank you puritans ;)

PS.: Not to mention the absolutely awesome and friendly staff@23 ;)

I know we've been dragging our feet on this one. For a while in fact. The current status of the flickr importer is that the code is about 60% done and in need of only a little more love. The key things holding the project back has been time constraints coupled with some worries about the Flickr terms of service for API keys.
We really are sorry about not having released this yet, so I'll make sure we put a card on the scrum board for this, so it won't be another nine months before I keep my promise ;-)

This discussion has made me feel guilty, so I just renewed my Plus membership! Even if I don't upload more than 30 photos a month, I feel I am getting good value here.
Also thank you to the 23 team -- the Picasa button now works for me.

Thanks man -- although no guilt-trips are necessary. The main problem is that we're doing too well elsewhere, and I'm afraid it's caused a bit of (unwanted) neglect.

I just renewed my Plus, why? Because I'm here since a long time and I've seen a lot of good on these pages in past and I think these guys deserve a little help for their work. I really don't need a Plus subscription, I don't upload vacation or party pictures, normal subscription would be enough for me. This happens only because 23hq has the best default offer for non subscribers and I'm glad to do something to sustain this policy. I wish all the best to 23 team and I hope that they will find more time for their first-born, even if the small brother is growing fast and strong.

So, another year has passed and it will soon be time to renew my plus again.
Too bad there was no development at all on the software side in the last year though. :(

It's been even over half a year since there was anything new on the blog. I'm really unsure if I shouldn't start looking for greener pastures, even though I like this site.

I'm also disappointed. I like 23 and it's philosophy of sharing but I miss the direct wire to the team like in the old days...
