Is it possible to stop the flood of emails; especially those about questions/answers in the help forum.
I can read then on the site itself and don't need an email.

@Jaap: I am having the same problem! I have tried adjusting the settings below, but I still get dozens of emails a day cluttering my inbox.
1.) Click on Options ---> Settings ---> (scroll down to) Comments & Contacts ---> Receive Comments by Email? ---> No
2.) Visit the "Photogroup" you are a member of. Click on the "Conversations" tab in that group. Look for the little box (scroll if necessary) that says:
"You're currently receiving e-mail whenever people participate in conversations in this group (change)" - click on the (change) link.
3.) when you reply to any conversation here on 23, make sure to leave little checkbox below the reply window ("Mail me when people reply here") UNCHECKED.

UPDATE to my post above (#3) :
It seems that 23 does NOT give you a choice to unsubscribe from email notifications when replying to a conversation. If you try to do so, you get this message when replying:
notify_on_reply_p is required
I tried it with other groups I belong to, and I get the same message when replying to a conversation. If I try to leave unchecked the little box, I get the dreaded "notify_on_reply_p is required" message, and won't be able to reply, unless I check the Mail me when people reply here" box.
This must be a site wide glitch. Can the administrators fix this?
I'm sorry Jaap. I wish I could be of better help! There doesn't seem to be much help from the administrators of this site!

Tried that, didn't work. I'm still getting email msgs to my GMail account, even after I've disabled notifications in my profile, and in group conversations (see photo)
Also, where is this "notify" tab you mention? I don't see any "disable" button or any such thing anywhere... ?

I think (I hope!) I figured out how to turn off email notifications for this group (and for all future threads?).
It seems I misinterpreted your post. I was looking for a "notify" tab or sidebar option - not realizing one has to type "notify" into their URL browser to get the photogroup page with notify options setting.
(hope the screenshot is self-explanitory) :-)
I hope this turns off notifications for individual threads as well!

What a mess. Turned all my email notifications on NO, but still get new ones.
