Sorry, I dont speak spanish :o(
But I am happy the guy does not associate the flower with fallen soldiers but seems to say something about love in the refrain.
The native english speakers usually comment something with a poem about flanders in the world war, which over they years gets rather old. I always thought fresh poppies are a cheery sight and the capsulae of some species hold the most jummy pastry filling and roll topping, the other suit the wildlife, nothing to be sad about. :o)

Agree with you! Here is the English translation:

Poppy

Poppy, pretty little poppy
My soul will always be only yours
I love you, my dear girl,
As the flower loves day's light.
Poppy, pretty little poppy,
Don't be so hard and love me.
Poppy, poppy
How can you live so alone.

I love you, my dear girl.
The same as the flower loves day's light.

Poppy, pretty little poppy,
Don't be so hard and love me.
