Oh Geri, I can't tell you that. For me I think I'll get a DSLR. (sooner or later) :-)
Gergana Vasileva February 12, 2008, 08:13 PM
Me too but ... it's very difficult to decide what to buy. I have some time to see, maybe 5-6 months. Sooner or later fits OK to me too. :D :)

Have you had a look at the new EOS 450D? Looks very interesting to me. But I'll wait for the first tests of this camera. :-)
Gergana Vasileva February 12, 2008, 08:54 PM
Good decision! I like some models of Nikon and Pentax, too, or why not Olympus Evolt... so it is difficult for me. We shall see :D

Emu February 13, 2008, 08:56 AM
Volker, 450D is mostly marketing trick. Many megapixels, many options but small CCD and etc.
istoyanov February 13, 2008, 09:22 PM
As nowadays the masses are going digital, almost everything becomes a marketing trick since cutting a bigger share of the pie is getting enormously difficult. Therefore, asking the right question remains the only clever strategy amidst the mess...
Volker February 14, 2008, 07:29 PM
Hi Anita, I hope I meet you all in Barca. Maybe with a new camera. ;-)

Emu, you're right about the megapixels. But there also interesting things like 14 bit color-depth.

Ivo, you mean the question is the answer? That's all so confusing. ;-)
Emu February 19, 2008, 01:00 AM
Volker, 14 bit color-depth sounds good. Realy good. But I think that 8 or 12 bits per channel of noise is good enough ;).
Volker February 19, 2008, 08:03 PM
Hahaha... Emu, so please tell me what to buy! ;-)
Emu February 20, 2008, 08:50 AM
Volker, I cannot tell you what to bye. You are better photographer than me and have more experience ;).

I just hate marketing tricks and the fact that new models of cameras takes worse photos than older.

Volker February 21, 2008, 07:26 PM
Thanks Emu! Although I don't think I'm the better photographer. ;-)
I can understand your objection. But I haven't seen any pictures taken with the 450D, yet. Have you? So I don't know that it makes worse photos. I think there is no big difference in the picture-quality of current DSLR's at all. :-)

Ok, guys! I think at first, we need to ask the right *questions* -- what I'll intend to do with the camera? What kind of pictures I love to make? What do I miss with my current one and what will give me more the next one?
For me, I can say, I still have no enough satisfying answers of all of these questions. I'm not so deeply in photography and especially with DSLRs but what I see and what I read is that the most important thing is the lens! More important that the body!

So, yes, these two sample pictures are fine but look at the lenses they made with - they are great!

My advice, Volker, is just answer the questions, chose a body which will fit best to your hand and eye and think more about the set of necessary lenses which will give you possibilities to be yourself. The most important in photography remains the great pleasure!
LoL****)

Volker February 21, 2008, 09:41 PM
Thanks for the link, Ivo!!!
Geri, you're right. The lens is the most important. But this makes the choice not really easier for me, as I think you can get great lenses for nearly every camera. (If you have enough money ;-)) So I'll try which camera fits best to my hand. :-)
Emu February 22, 2008, 12:45 AM
Volker, I think that you is better than me but you have right to think different ;). "He put the right things on the scene and then shoot them", I told to Gergana when I saw some of your photos. This was a joke of course. You have wonderful photos ;).

What is in my mind?

I don't want to compare one camera with another. If I take a look to one photo taken with 350D and another taken with 450D, I probably could not find the difference. Neither more noise from smaller sensor pixel neither more colors from most bits per channel.

My vision is based on the past when the marketing fight was in lowest class cameras (as we call soap-box). In this class of cameras I could find the difference. There was a big progress first after that has a regress. Megapixels was parameter that ordinary customer looked for so they was on the top of the wave in marketing strategy. And digital zoom of course.

After that the fight was in next class of cameras . Bigger with optical zoom. Customers learned that digital zoom is send in the eyes and started to look for digital zoom. OK. Marketing departments added "optical zoom" in its requirements. And "more optical zoom" after that. And etc.

Get back to present. Prize of low class DSLR cameras is very good now. Customer learned that DSLR is better no matter why. "One photographer said so" and so. You know why but marketing target didn't know. But the marketing targets money is so good as yours. But marketing targets are more than customers that know why DSLR is better than DSLR-like. So? "Let make DSLR suitable for mass! They still know that more megapixels is better.".

Thats why I have no trust to last models of those cameras. I prefer something older but marketing fight free.

Recently I bought my FUJI S6000fd camera. It is a DSLR like camera. I didn't bought a DSLR because at this time this is good for me. But I did not take newer model of FUJI or other mark. I bought camera 2006 model. It has a compromise with some features like stabilization but I think it was a right choice.

Brrr. Who write all of that :).

P.S. My english is no so good but I hope You understand me :)

Wooooow!!! This must be one of the longest comments on 23!!!
Thanks a lot, Emu! I'm so glad you like my photos.
Of course I understand you. And I think I understand what you're meaning. It could be a good choice to buy an older camera. As well they decrease the prize when a new camera comes out. The FUJI S6000fd is a interesting camera. I bought the PowerShot S3 IS because it was smaller. And now I'm looking for a DSLR. Hahaha...
