Marvin, our nominate Swallowtail got always the big red dot, and it is at that much smaler than your common Tiger Swallowtails. But Appalachian Swallowtail also usually got a red dot as does Canadian Swallowtail. It is just less prominent and visible in them, but if you look closely at pics of late specimen exhibited orderly spread out you might note it, like this here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:P_app_m_holotype_dorsal.jpg
